The most asked question and the most important aspect of baking or cooking professionally is pricing your product correctly. Too much and you don’t get any customers. Too little and the whole exercise doesn’t seem worth it!
Veena of Veena’s Art of Cakes and A Homemade Chef has been through all this and more! She was born in Mumbai but after living for a few years in US she and her family have settled down in Israel where she operates a Cake business from home.
Following is an excerpt from her blog Cake Pricing (Beginners guide)
“Some of the most common questions I get as a cake decorator are:
- How should I price my cakes?
- Can you share your price-list with me?
- What is the right price for a beginner?
- How much should I charge for this type of cake? etc.
As much as I’d like to say, this is what I charge and you can charge the same; that’s not possible.
So I thought I’d write a little article on Cake Pricing (beginners guide)
Now, What you charge for your cakes is based on many factors around you. Before you begin to calculate the actual numbers, In this post I’m going to share with you my own experience, explore some of those factors using my own market, then use some rough figures as an example to show you how to go about it.”
